What animals inhabit our surroundings? What’s a habitat and why is it important to an animal? Why do we see cows and squirrels in our backyards and not elephants or polar bears? Can you identify animals and guess where they live? These are just a few of the questions that you and your child will discuss in the Animal Land room. Local artist, Kim Grinev, captured vintage Frederick County landscapes in her stunning mural that highlights this room.
Beautiful farmland spans one wall as it wraps around into forestland typical of Gambrill Park on an adjacent wall. Opposite this are pictures featuring a habitat from another place on earth. Children are encouraged to think about the wildlife we see in our own region and compare it to other habitats around
the world. Animal-centered activities fill the room as well as discussion points promoting conservancy of our planet. For all our future vets and naturalists out there, this is the room for you!
